My First Job in Amazon

Hello readers! I am now going in my third week working for Amazon. I am so proud of myself that I have lasted this long at a job and I hope you will be glad to know that I am enjoying it.

My job is essential in Amazon. I like to share that I work at a warehouse facility somewhere in the Inland Empire, the location is not a secret but I do not want any stalkers 🙂 (as if I am some celeb hahaha). The items that come into the warehouse, mostly, from China – the factory of the world, are unloaded from the trucks and on to the conveyor belts.

Most come to me for sorting in yellow totes, plastic containers that some geniuses calculated the best dimensions for products, because it really seems to fit the items in many placement configurations. A few come in their boxes direct from foreign countries, mainly from China, the known source of SARS-Cov2 or Covid-19. So other than being an essential worker in the supply chain to get your products shipped to you, I am also a frontline worker that comes in contact with the boxes where microbes and dust particles cling on to get here in America!

The work is pretty simple that I could have done it without any education. See…I just got my college degree so I intend to use that to advance in the company towards a job that requires a bachelor’s degree. I am testing the waters and getting my beak wet so I can get a taste of what its like to work in a warehouse.

My prior experience was at FedEx and I just lasted a week. This old body would not heal after unloading lawn mowers and generators that weigh over 50 pounds. Light weight for youngsters but not for me. I can only carry up to 20 to 30 pounds so this current job works best for my muscular strength.

Now, back to the details of my fun job that even a child could do and is so much fun!

I either get a tote or a box from the conveyor belt then scan the container with a gun that scans the code. All I have to know is what that code looks like and if the gun scanner works I would get a message in the little monitor or display to continue scanning items. No need to read or think! Makes me wonder that they required a high school graduate level for the job?

Then, I look for the code on the item, scan it, and a light shows on the monitor exactly where to put the item. Using my not so fine motor skills I place the item carefully in the tote assigned for it. I push a big button to complete the work. That is all!

I just repeat the same thing over and over again for the rest of my 10-hour shift. It is the most amazing job in the world like a child that can play while earning some money…a whopping $17 an hour. Plus, I get to work over time at a rate of 1.5 equals $25.50 means I can make so much more.

No need for the treadmill at the gym because I make twenty thousand steps or more at work. The only one thing I do not like about it is when the days are so slow. I am not allowed to sit down so I just stand up or walk around while day dreaming of more customers ordering from Amazon so that I get more busy days.

So please, do buy from Amazon and shop more! Do not save your money because prices will go up any way and you need to maximize your shopping dollars including your credit limit.

Thank you for reading this useless blog written by a not so useless person. Hey, I now have a job, right!
